The 2003 vintage in the Russian River Valley was marked by an early budbreak and warm spring weather. Overall, the growing season was very long with warm days and cool nights, a slightly warm year by Russian River Valley standards. A period of hot days in October ensured good final flavor development. By design, I choose fruit from cool areas so that I avoid overripe, raisiny fruit in favor of slightly spicier flavors with a good natural acidity to ensure long ageing potential. |
