Dakine Vineyard Syrah
DaKine is a Hawaiian Pidgin word that means "the best". Need we say more?
This special Syrah is farmed traditionally, by hand, producing a true field blend with all grapes harvested and fermented together in one very happy tank. With Zinfandel for a little spiciness, Malbec flesh and blueberry notes, the Petite Syrah providing structure and lengthy tannins, and Carignane and Grenache bringing out earthiness.
This is a wine that honors the simple life, and is meant to be shared with your closest friends and family. And the occasional attractive stranger, of course.

| Harvest Notes |
DaKine Vineyard, planted by Oded in 2000, is nestled at the bottom of an east-facing hill on Westside road in Healdsburg. Two blocks of vines make up this wine: The large block is planted to Syrah, clone 7 on a modern vertical trellis and is farmed traditionally. The small block is planted 4 feet by 4 feet and is farmed exclusively by hand, vines are trained on a modified Guillot system. This small block is made of 11 rows of 6 varieties that become the "spice rack" for making this wine. Zinfandel adds spiciness, Malbec flesh and blueberry notes, Petit Sirah structure and lengthy tannins, and the Carignan and Grenache add earthiness. Unlike the blending that occurs in the laboratory of a winery, this is a field blend; all the grapes are harvested and fermented together in one tank. |
| Composition |
89% Syrah, 3% Grenache, 3% Zinfandel, 2% Carignan, 1.5% Malbec, 1.5% Petit Sirah |
| Abstract |
This wine shows an extra layer of complexity and length that will assure a graceful ageing period. The fruit character is nicely balanced with sweet tannins and just enough acid to make it pair well with your favorite dish. |
